How God Restored My Daughter From Death
Psalm 118:17: I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
When the enemy comes with affliction, God always arises to defend His own. This was the recent experience of our brother whose daughter faced a life-threatening attack: What seemed like a simple illness turned into a terrifying battle. Read his testimony below to find out how God intervened.
Chosen, praise the Lord!
By the grace of God, my name is Brother Kenneth Okonkwo, and this is my daughter, Joy Okonkwo. We are here to thank God for making us part of the Chosen family and to testify about the marvellous thing He did in my daughter’s life this past Friday, 21st February 2025.
It all started on Thursday when I returned from work. My daughter was complaining of feeling unwell, but we thought it was just a mild illness and gave her some medication. However, throughout the night, she continued to feel worse.
The next morning, as we gathered for our usual 5 a.m. morning devotion, she was still in her room because she was very weak. While leading the worship, I suddenly had a vision—almost like a trance—where I saw my wife running downstairs, shouting, “Daddy, Daddy, Joy is dead!” This vision shook me, and I immediately started praying and canceling it. I felt goosebumps all over and became very cold, but I continued to pray.
After our devotion, around 6 a.m., I went upstairs and saw that she had vomited in her room. We cleaned up, but I didn’t think much of it because I was used to how she behaves when she’s sick. I told her to get ready for school, but she said she was too weak to stand. So, I called my wife and asked her to help her bathe so we could decide whether to take her to the hospital.
While my wife was bathing her, I suddenly heard her crying and shouting, “Daddy, Daddy, Joy is gone!” I rushed to the bathroom and saw a terrifying sight—Joy had tightly bitten my wife’s hand and wouldn’t let go. Her eyes had rolled back, and she was unresponsive. Immediately, I remembered the vision I had during prayer and declared that the devil was defeated!
Even though she was a little girl, I struggled to open her mouth. My wife managed to pull her hand out, but it was badly wounded and bleeding. Then Joy grabbed my hand, and I also sustained deep wounds that bled heavily. At that moment, she completely collapsed.
I became confused, not knowing what to do. We quickly placed a spoon in her mouth, but she clenched it so tightly that I had to force my hand out. In desperation, we started calling on the God of the Chosen. As we continued praying, suddenly, Joy came back to life and asked, “Daddy, what happened?”
Brethren, the God of Chosen is great! She was completely gone—her eyes had turned, and even her lips, which were red, had turned white. But God miraculously restored her life! If not for the God of Chosen, I cannot imagine what my testimony would have been today. To Him be all the glory!
From the time my wife and I got married, we made a covenant that every child God blesses us with would be dedicated to Him. Whatever cash gifts we received for them during their infancy would be given as an offering on the day of their dedication. That is what we have done for all our children. I reminded God of this covenant, declaring that this child could not be dedicated to Him and then taken away prematurely. And God answered!
Today, we have come to rededicate Joy to the God of the Chosen and to appreciate Him for this great miracle. As a token of our gratitude, we are thanking God with an offering of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦500,000).
To God be all the glory!
