116 Court Appearances And How God Intervened
Psalm 34:19: Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.
No power on earth can stop God when He steps into a situation for deliverance! This was the case for our brother, who suffered for ten years in prison. But through unwavering faith and the intervention of the God of the Chosen, his story turned into this powerful testimony. Read his incredible journey below:
My name is Brother Godwin Francis Chimobi.
In 2015, I was arrested for a crime I did not commit and taken to Ikoyi Prison. I was arrested at the age of 22 because of bad friends. One of my friends called me to help bail him out at the police station, but when I arrived, I was implicated in the case.
That same month, members of The Lord’s Chosen visited the prison and ministered to us. During that service, I gave my life to Christ. From that day, the Chosen brethren stood by me, encouraging me with the Word of God. They told me that the God of Chosen can do what man cannot do. I believed this and held onto the Word of God. The man of God also said, “Many are called, but few are chosen,” and I took this as my personal conviction.
From 2015, I started attending court hearings. I went to court 116 times, yet nothing happened. During a revival held in Ikoyi Prison by The Lord’s Chosen, I participated fully. I was given an apron and wore it to court. When I stood before the judge, he asked me, “What are you wearing?” I told him it was an apron from The Lord’s Chosen. The judge then mentioned the name of our General Overseer, and I told him that was the church I attended in prison. At that moment, the judge remained silent for over five minutes.
After my lawyer spoke, I was sent back to prison. In 2016, my father passed away, but I did not give up because I knew that in God’s appointed time, He would set me free.
That same year, the church continued to visit and minister to us in prison. I became a church worker and was eventually appointed as a cell pastor in The Lord’s Chosen prison fellowship. I spoke with the state pastor, and he encouraged me to keep the faith, assuring me that one day, the God of Chosen would set me free.
In 2017, I lost my two sisters, and by then, I had already spent two years in prison for a crime I did not commit.
After ten years in prison, on January 7, 2025, I went to court. That day, there was no electricity, so the court did not sit. My lawyer told me that my case would be postponed. However, I boldly declared that God had told me this was my day of release. My lawyer told me to hold onto my faith, and I told him, “I serve the God of Chosen, and He will set me free.” They gave me two more days to return to court.
On January 9, I arrived at court around 12:30 PM. When the judge called my case, she referred to me as “the son of Chosen.” I believed that because she knew the God of the Chosen, something good would happen. That day, I was discharged and acquitted.
While I was in prison, over a thousand prisoners died. Many suffered from mental illness, severe delays in their cases, and deadly diseases. But the God of Chosen preserved my life.
After my release, I travelled to my village on January 9 and faced another challenge. In my family, we are seven children and I am the only son and the second to the last born. What I saw in the village was beyond my imagination.
My mother warned me not to visit a particular man, saying, “If you go to him, he will kill you.”
I told my mother, “I am already dead in Christ. You cannot kill a man who has died in Christ.”
When I met the man, I told him, “Sir, I do not know you personally, but I know you in the spirit. Give your life to Christ.” I prayed with him and left, believing that by God’s grace, he would surrender to Christ one day. I give all the glory to God. My advice to the youth is that they should stay away from bad friends. The wrong company can destroy your life. But if you trust in God, He will never fail you.
